Following a traumatic experience of workplace bullying, Dr. Michelle Nyangereka made the difficult decision to step away from a successful career in Drama and Theatre to focus on healing. During her recovery, she faced a significant decline in her mental health, eventually seeking therapeutic support for major depressive disorder. This personal journey became a turning point—igniting a deep interest in mental health and leading Dr. Nyangereka to pursue a new path in counselling psychology.
Today, Dr. Nyangereka is a qualified Counselling Psychologist and a compassionate practitioner dedicated to supporting others on their healing journeys. As a medical cannabis patient herself, she understands the therapeutic potential of cannabis-based medications and proudly stands as an advocate for their responsible and integrated use.
“I recognise that cannabis isn’t a panacea—its efficacy is enhanced through a holistic approach. Talk therapy is often an essential part of that. Whether someone is using cannabis to manage physical or psychological symptoms, there’s often an emotional layer that needs attention. Unfortunately, stigma around cannabis still exists, especially in healthcare. I want to create a safe, non-judgmental space for patients to be honest about their use. In some cases, I’ve seen cannabis help facilitate deeper therapeutic work—bringing greater body awareness, compassion, and emotional access.”
