Berta Kaguako, M.A.
Founder and Managing Director

Living with multiple chronic health conditions has given Berta a unique understanding of the challenges faced by patients navigating complex healthcare needs. Through her own journey, she discovered the value of a holistic approach to wellbeing, combining conventional healthcare, lifestyle interventions, education and plant-based therapies to support symptom management and improve quality of life.

Today, Berta is a passionate advocate for holistic health, health equity and patient empowerment. She promotes informed, evidence-based conversations around plant medicine and integrative approaches to chronic illness management, particularly for individuals whose needs are not fully addressed through conventional treatment pathways. Her work is driven by a belief that every person deserves access to the knowledge, support and options needed to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.

Berta’s background is in Mental Health, Substance Misuse and Children & Families: in both a therapeutic and senior management capacity, having won 3x Blooming Strong Awards (Recognition from UN for contribution to violence against Women).

Berta brings over a decade of experience spanning mental health, social care, healthcare leadership and patient advocacy. Her professional journey began in psychotherapy, training in children’s psychodynamic psychotherapy before expanding into adult integrative psychotherapy and substance misuse services. She later progressed into senior leadership roles within the charity sector, including serving as Westminster Borough Manager for a substance misuse service, where she oversaw service delivery, operational management and community support programmes.

Her expertise further developed through the management of a family assessment centre, where she led multidisciplinary teams responsible for assessing parenting capacity within family court proceedings. Following this, Berta worked as a consultant within the health and social care sector, supporting organisations to improve service quality, governance and patient outcomes.

Most recently, Berta has established herself as a respected voice within the medical cannabis and plant medicine sector. She previously served as a CQC Registered Manager and now works as a consultant, specialising in patient experience, clinical governance and healthcare innovation.

Alongside founding EthVida, Berta contributes to a number of advisory and governance roles. She serves as a Lay Panel Member for primary and secondary school admission appeals across the UK, Specialist Advisor to the Cannabis Trades Association, and Advisory Board Member for a UK plant medicine pharmacy, where she provides expertise on patient experience, service quality and clinical governance.

Today, Berta combines her professional expertise, lived experience of chronic illness and passion for health equity to champion a more inclusive approach to healthcare—one that empowers individuals through education, advocacy, holistic wellbeing and equitable access to health information.
