🌿 Introducing: Mental Health Coaching for Ethnic Minorities

Created by Berta Kaguako. This free coaching programme is not therapy — it’s an emotionally supportive, psychosocial space tailored for those who want to take control of their mental and emotional wellbeing.

Berta Kaguako is a Health & Social Care Consultant, with a background in psychotherapy, mental health, substance misuse, children and families, parenting assessments, senior management, clinical governance & sits as a lay panel member for primary & secondary school appeals. Throughout her career, she has formulated and implemented various training programmes and 1:1 Health Coaching, Mental Health Coaching, Substance Misuse Psychosocial Interventions. These have been successful with positive feedback from service users.

Berta is also a patient, living with various chronic illnesses, and uses a holistic approach to successfully manage her health & wellbeing. Using her professional experience and lived experience, Berta has devised a tailored programme to support individuals to explore their wellbeing and how they can implement a holistic approach to improve on and sustain their wellbeing…

🗓️ Programme Format

  • 8 sessions, delivered fortnightly over 16 weeks
  • Sundays @ 12pm (standard)
  • 10:30am – 2pm (for trial participants only)
  • Includes 1:1 coaching, personalised assessments, tailored wellbeing plans, and a final discharge safety plan

🚨 Limited Availability! As a solo coach, I can only take one cohort at a time (2 persons at a time). Once this round starts, the next won’t be until after 16 weeks. If you’re ready to do the work, now’s the time.

Session Breakdown

1. Mental Health History Assessment

Explore your personal history, current challenges, support network & coping strategies.

2. Mental Health Awareness

Understand mental health and the value of mental fitness and self-care.

3. Building Resilience

Use mindfulness and positive reframing to build emotional balance and inner strength.

4. Managing Stress

Learn healthy ways to handle stress, solve problems, and resolve conflict.

5. Coping Mechanisms & Managing Emotions

Understand emotional triggers, unhealthy habits, and develop a personal coping toolkit.

6. Holistic Health

Explore how exercise, sleep, and nutrition support mental and physical health.

7. The Roads to Wellbeing

Connect the dots through the 5 Ways to Wellbeing and holistic health models.

8. Discharge & Safety Planning

Create a personalised plan to recognise relapse signs, manage triggers, and stay on track.

🔐 Programme Requirements

To take part, you must:

✅ Be 18+ and living in the UK (ID required)
✅ Be from an ethnic minority background
✅ Have a formal or suspected mental health diagnosis
✅ Be willing to participate fully and consistently
✅ Have a device with camera, mic, and internet
✅ Provide a GP summary of care and give consent to contact your GP
✅ Complete all required forms, assessments, and weekly homework

✅ We also welcome all cannabis users, whether medical or recreational, also known as ‘adult use’.

❌ You will not be eligible if:

  • You do not meet the inclusion criteria or are unwilling to follow programme guidelines
  • You are experiencing a mental health crisis
  • You have a pre-existing relationship with the facilitator
  • If you are not willing to engage in the programme fully, this includes attending on time and completing homework

We know taking the next step is quite scary and you might feel like you don’t meet the criteria, but remember, you are just as important as anyone else, and this work is to help you to get ready, we will support you every step of the way, if you’re willing to work with us.

We are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and productive space for healing.
You may be discharged from the programme if you:

  • Miss sessions without notice or arrive late more than once
  • Refuse to engage with tasks or discussions
  • Break confidentiality or safety boundaries
  • Disrupt the session or are violent, aggressive or threating towards the facilitator

Please download and fill out all the forms, we know it may be extensive, however this will support you in the long run, as it means less paperwork and more engagement during sessions, and we want to invest as much time in you as possible. Once you have completed the forms and returned all the documentation highlighted on your checklist, then please return application to: WE ARE CURRENTLY FULL FOR THIS ROUND OF SESSIONS.
